    Purpose:

    To incorporate a different method when checking a claim to assist in identifying claims containing erroneous or fraudulent information and to ensure that the correct amount of benefit is awarded. 

    Decision:

    Approves the revised Risk Based Verification Policy.

    Reasons for the decision:

    The revision to the Risk Based Verification Policy and accompanying procedure further enhanced the methods used to maintain the security of the gateway to the benefits system and helped to ensure that benefit was only awarded to those with a genuine entitlement.

    None considered.

    Resource Implications:

    Annual costs associated with the credit reference module covered by new burdens funding from the Department for Work and Pensions which had been granted to the Benefits Section for 2016/17.
