To consider a report by the Head of Environment and Transport on the development of a new agreement between the Council and the Highways Agency.

Decision:
After consultation with the Executive Councillor for Environment and Transport, the Director of Operational Services was authorised to enter into an agreement with the County Council, for a period of three years commencing 1st April 2006, which would secure the discharge of highway functions described in paragragh 6.2 of the report within existing budget provision.
Minutes:
Members considered a report by the Head of Environment and Transport (a copy of which is appended in the Minute Book) regarding progress in negotiations to secure a new agreement with the County Council for the discharge of specific functions in future years following the termination of the Highways Agency in March 2005.
Having noted the range of highway-related activities which would be included in the future agency arrangement and the financial implications of the proposed arrangements, the Cabinet
RESOLVED
that, after consultation with the Executive Councillor for Environment and Transport, the Director of Operational Services be authorised to enter into an agreement with the County Council for a period of 3 years commencing 1st April 2006, to secure the discharge of the highways functions described in paragraph 6.2 of the report now submitted, within existing budget provision.
